Prayer for Government

Deuteronomy 28:10-11 (KJV) 10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. 11 And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

Psalm 9:9 (KJV) 9 The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

Psalm 33:12 (KJV) 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Proverbs 2:10-12, 21-22 (KJV) 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: 12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; 21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. 22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

Proverbs 21:1 (KJV) 1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Acts 12:24 (KJV) 24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

Romans 8:37 (KJV) 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Romans 13:1-7 (KJV) 1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 6 For this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

1 Timothy 2:1-3 (KJV) 1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

With issues such as religious liberty, the definition of marriage, and the sanctity of life, Lord we pray for our nations leaders and office holders, that they would exercise their authority with wisdom, fairness, and respect for the values upon which our nation was founded. Amen.
